About this project: I got interested in the subject while serving on the board of the Shafer Museum in Winthrop  WA.  The Shafer focus is the settlement period of Methow Valley 1886-1940.  There is an unavoidable question of who was here before settlement.  I happened on Jack Splawn’s book Kamiaikin: The Last Hero of the Yakima and  the indigenous history opened up. The question of who was here before settlement is better understood in the context of the whole state or region.  This site hopefully answers some of those questions.
